Gerard Tierney set up Projectile to Executive Produce the short film Higher Mathematics Made Fun, produced and directed by Andrew McCarthy. The film played festivals and cinemas in several countries.  Next, Andrew and Gerard co-produced a TV version, Toys For The Boys, for the UK's Channel Four. Gerard then worked on development for Projectile (and with companies in the UK, Germany and Italy), while Executive Producing touched, a fiction feature shot in Missouri. This first phase of activity under the Projectile name predominantly took place during the 1990s.

Gerard also acted as Associate Producer on over a dozen shorts by Berlin artist and filmmaker Deborah S. Phillips, as well as on her medium-length creative documentary Mosaïc. He presented her films at Close-Up and Iklectik in London, helped prepare a catalogue of 30 years' work that she premiered in Berlin at Kino Arsenal, and worked with her at Alchemy Film & Moving Image Festival and at other events.  This could be considered the second phase of Projectile's activity.

Before starting Octopoid to co-produce After All Gerard had, through Projectile, Executive Produced the feature documentaries Privileg (2023) and Dark Light Voyage (2021) and the short drama Anniversary (2022), as well as contributing to appeals for the seed funding for the feature documentary Komm Mit Mir In Das Cinema – Die Gregors (premiered at Berlin Film Festival in 2022) and for the completion of Socialist Realism (Raúl Ruiz – Valeria Sarmiento, 1973 - 2023).

Gerard also worked as a music promoter and writer, and spent over three years running the monthly Free Radicals concert programme at the Red Rose Club in London.  He has written reviews for the magazine Rubberneck, and CD booklet notes for Emanem, Psi and Freeform Association.  Between 1998 and 2022 he was volunteer Administrator for the London Improvisers Orchestra, a number of whose projects have involved film and video. â€‹Projectile collaborated with Soft Cloud and High On The Pyg Track on an archival 4-CD Martin Stone boxset on Shagrat, Down But Not Out In Paris And London.
